Who are we?

The Pets People are an online resource directory for the welfare and care of pets and animals with its foundation built around a free rehoming and adoption service throughout the UK.

The inspiration behind The Pets People is a "Sprocker" Springer Spaniel called Dexter, a truly lovable 4 year old whose previous owners were sadly unable to look after due to family circumstances. Desperate to find a good home for him and frustrated in their attempts to find a local family who might take him they considered other options including newspaper ads and existing online services. They were loathe to leave him with an animal shelter as a last resort in fear of them being unable to find a placement. We eventually heard about Dexter through a friend. A meeting was arranged and that was that. The previous owners were thrilled to feel they had made the right choice for Dexter and have real peace of mind and we were delighted to adopt him as a member of our family.

We have cared for many animals over the years but it made us think how many other Dexters there are out there. Pets and animals that need a good home and are not necessarily the fault of uncaring owners. A family bereavement, change of job, an unplanned litter of cats or dogs. The sheer number of animals left with shelters alone are testimony to the fact that there are thousands of animals who deserve more and we aim to try and make a difference.

We decided to create a secure online national database with local search facilities that enables the general public as well as animal shelters, rescue centres and animal charities throughout the United Kingdom a free platform for rehoming of all pets and animals. We want everyone to use the free rehoming section and hope to encourage a safe environment for all users.

Monitoring the system is our prime concern and to that end we are constantly vigilant against misuse. We have a variety of security measures in place which we will continue to develop. Cutting down the amount of illegal trading of animals is very important to us and if you are aware of any abuse please inform us so that we can take appropriate action.
